Deputies from the Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station, along with City staff, came together last month and took a run around the City for a great cause, the Special Olympics.
Each year, over 97,000 members of law enforcement participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Started in 1981, the Torch Run is meant to bring awareness and raise funds for the Special Olympics programs. Locally, the Pico Rivera Sheriff’s station has participated over the past few years, receiving and passing the Torch to other local Law Enforcement jurisdictions. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, the Sheriff’s Station was still able to participate by having a City Torch Run in order to carry the flame. Over two dozen Deputies and City staff participated in this special run that was 3 miles long and went from the Sheriff’s Station to Whittier Boulevard, then down Rosemead Boulevard back to the Station.
