It was a dedication 90 years in the making. Last month, members of the Casas
family came out to Smith Park to surprise long-time resident and active member
of the community, Rudy Casas, with a dedication bench.
The bench was purchased by Rudy’s family in honor of his recent 90th Birthday.
According to his niece, Anna Winters, she wanted her uncle to know how much
he was appreciated not only by his family but by the community as well.
The bench installation was also attended by City Staff who have known and
worked with Rudy on several programs and projects, including the Go Getters and
Life Writing. Rudy has also provided material for City publications, including the
Profile, and the Pico Rivera Magazine, recollecting his proud service in the military.
The dedication bench was installed along the first-base side of the Go Getters Softball field at Smith Park. The inscription reads, “Rudy Casas – A writer of life, and a Go Getter for life.”
