Significant progress has been made on the Durfee Avenue Grade Separation Project. Construction crews are continuing the underground utility work along Durfee Avenue and will finish the south half of the rail bridge next month. Stephens Street has been lowered to meet Durfee Avenue at the intersection, and asphalt will be poured by the end of the month.
Durfee Avenue will remain closed until June 2022, when the new roadway will reopen to all traffic. Businesses along Durfee Avenue remain open, and access to the businesses is not impacted by the road closure.
Once completed, the project will minimize emergency services response time due to blocked access, eliminate harmful emissions from idle cars waiting for trains to pass, and noise pollution from the train’s horn will be reduced as they will no longer have to blow their horn when approaching the crossing.
