Rio Hondo Park Playground will be closing soon and, in turn, will be receiving a much-needed improvement.
The park’s playground structures and surfacing were installed in 2001 when Rio Hondo Park was first renovated with new fields and a community center. Now over 19 years old, the playground structures are showing their age with replacement parts obsolete due to the age. In addition, the pour-and-play surfacing areas have noticeable wear and tear.
The proposed renovations to the Park’s playground areas include replacing both play equipment structures and the installation of a new pour-and-play surface. In addition, area residents were instrumental in selecting the new playground structures and color schemes through a series of community engagement workshops held in June 2019. The new playground will incorporate many of the components selected by area residents.
Funding for this project came by way of several grant opportunities through the State of California. Construction of the new playground will begin next month and should be completed before spring of 2022.
